Beyond the Brush: The Essence of Creative Expression

Beyond the Brush: The Essence of Creative Expression opens the studio doors to six visionary South Florida artists—Marina Font, Karla Kantorovich, Magda Love, Aurora Morali, Lisu Vega, and Yochi Y. Avin—inviting audiences into their intimate creative worlds. Through six immersive documentaries, the project unveils the people behind the work—their processes, inspirations, and the ways memory, heritage, and identity shape their art.

From July 16 through August 2, 2026, at MAD Arts in Dania Beach, the exhibition transforms the gallery into a sensory playground where film, sound, and original artworks collide. Each artist’s journey unfolds side-by-side with dynamic projections and thoughtfully curated pieces, letting viewers see, feel, and hear creativity in motion.

Marina Font merges photography, collage, textiles, and installation to create immersive, psychoanalytically informed experiences. Karla Kantorovich transforms paint, fiber, handmade paper, and found objects into tactile explorations of life, decay, and renewal. Magda Love combines painting, sculpture, textiles, and embroidery to craft bold, immersive narratives that celebrate connection and imagination. Aurora Morali weaves fiber, mixed media, and installation into intimate stories that investigate memory, heritage, and transformation. Lisu Vega works across engraving, photography, fiber, sculpture, and fashion art to interrogate migration, memory, and identity with layered, material storytelling. Yochi Y. Avin blends painting and mixed media to explore layers of identity and cultural memory.

Storytelling Through the Lens: An Introduction to Filmmaking for Artists empowers participants to translate their artistic vision into film, using accessible tools like smartphones and free editing apps to craft visual narratives and share their stories.

Voices & Visions: Artist Panel Discussion offers a lively conversation with the six artists and the filmmaker, moderated by a local curator, exploring their techniques, inspirations, and creative philosophies.

By blending documentaries, visual art, workshops, and public dialogue, Beyond the Brush celebrates diverse voices, illuminates the creative process, and reveals the vibrant, evolving artistic landscape of South Florida. This is more than an exhibition—it’s a journey into the heart of contemporary creativity.

This project is made possible through the generous support of the Broward Cultural Division and the Community Foundation of Broward, alongside MAD Arts and its founder, Marc Aptakin. Backed by a 2026 Broward Innovation Grant, their commitment to fostering local creativity transforms artists’ voices into immersive experiences, celebrating South Florida’s vibrant and diverse artistic landscape.
